Hilda is a fiction-based photographer whose work focuses on fashion and portraiture. Hilda Sackey was originally born in Ghana (West Africa) she studied her trade at UCA (Rochester) and now lives and works in South London. Her work promotes and utilises fashion photography as a fine art. Her aim as always is to produce work that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye; she is also greatly influenced by the construction of photographic tableaux.
"All the world's a stage"
Moving bodily and theoretically through one set of ideas, histories and culture are tools used to layer the work she makes. Portraiture is used to stake claim to ones self, to stories told and untold, to challenge time and memory as the machine that often erases.
The methodology she uses proves consistent with carrying across the theatricality that is conventional within photographic tableaux. Mixing mediums of the photographic and the painted to further enhance the fictional fundamentals that remain prevalent within her work. Carrying across costume and a colour palette that is characteristic of her Ghanaian heritage.
